The best laptop is now even better. Dell has given the XPS 13 ($799 to start, $1,399 with touch) a brighter screen, longer battery life, a new USB-C port with Thunderbolt 3 and your choice of Intel's latest 6th-generation Core Series CPUs. Dell also kept all the features we liked on the previous model, including the sexy aluminum and carbon-fiber body, optional quad-HD infinity display, and comfy backlit keyboard. While the location of the webcam still feels out of place, this latest XPS 13 continues to reign supreme. 

 

We received two models for review, both decked-out flagships. The silver model came with a Core i5-6200U processor, 8GB of RAM, a 256GB solid state drive, and a 3,200 x 1,800 Infinity Edge touchscreen, all for $1,400. The more expensive gold edition, at $1,650, swaps out the Core i5 for a Core i7-6560U.

The Surface Book is a 2-in-1 PC designed and produced by Microsoft, part of the company's Surface line of personal computing devices. Surface Book is distinguished from other Surface devices primarily by its full-sized, detachable keyboard, which uses a dynamic fulcrum hinge that expands when it is opened. The keyboard contains a second battery, a number of ports and an optional discrete graphics card used when the screen part, also dubbed as the clipboard by Microsoft, is docked to it. Contrary to Surface Pro devices, which are marketed as tablets, the Surface Book is marketed as a laptop, Microsoft's first device marketed as such.

The MacBook Air is a line of Macintosh ultraportable notebook computers from Apple Inc. The Air was designed to balance both performance and portability, consisting of a full-sized keyboard design, a machined casing made of aluminum, and a very light and thin structure. The MacBook Air is available in two sizes, with the diagonal length of the display determining the model size: 13.3-inch and 11.6-inch (or 33.78 cm and 29.46 cm, respectively). (Usually these are regarded as 13"- resp. 11"-model.) A range of model choices with different specifications are produced by Apple, and as of 2011, all Air models use solid-state drive (SSD) storage and Intel Core i5 or i7 central processing units (CPUs).

In the current Macintosh product line, the MacBook Air sits below the thicker, higher-performance MacBook Pro and compared to the new MacBook Retina, its features reflect different priorities. The MacBook Air was originally released as a premium ultraportable which was positioned above the then entry-level MacBook. Since then, the MacBook Air has become Apple's entry-level laptop due to the discontinuation of the original MacBook in 2011, as well as lowered prices on subsequent iterations of the MacBook Air.In recent years, the MacBook Air has become the best-selling Macintosh computer and the best-selling ultraportable notebook, being credited with revolutionizing lightweight yet powerful laptops known as Ultrabooks.
